Advantages and disadvantages of DOORS as Database for a C# application

The purpose of the C# application is to automate the testing. The requirements will be stored in DOORS.

In such scenario, can we use DOORS as a database for managing all data manipulating operations(ADD/EDIT/DELETE) using DXL through C# GUI like in an RDBMS database? Or do we need to go for an RDBMS database itself and then use export/import function of DOORS to upload/download the data to DOORS(offline/online)? Which is the best method to proceed with?

If it is DOORS, what can be the advantages? and how far we can expect the support from DOORS(DXL) to C#? Are there any limitations to use it as a database?

Thanks in advance,
Anitha
